How to Prepare a Market Analysis for a Business Plan

Putting together a business plan can seem like a daunting task. In order to do a thorough job, you must take your time with each of the different components. One of the most important components of a business plan is the market analysis. The market analysis section of your business plan will help you understand the domain in which you plan to operate. More importantly, it will also help potential investors see that you know your market and have a plan that can work within its context. The following information will help you prepare this critical piece of your business plan.

Identify Target Markets

Preparing a market analysis begins with thinking about who your prospective customers are. Some of the factors to consider when deciding who will be included in your target market include:

- Demographics such as age and sex, race or ethnicity, levels of education and income – Geographical location – Personality traits, attitudes, preferences and needs – Shopping habits such as frequency, loyalty and likeliness to purchase online

When identifying target markets, it is important to define a realistic and proper span. If your market analysis focuses on too extensive a segment, it may be difficult to reach (or prove you can reach) all consumers within it effectively. On the other hand, if your defined target market is too narrow, you may not be able to generate enough business to be profitable.

Getting Started

In your market analysis, it is important to be thorough and to describe your methodology for defining your target market. A good way to start is to ask yourself “who will potentially be a consumer of my goods and/or services?” Saying “everyone” will be too broad and make your job of narrowing down your focus more difficult. Instead, consider your potential market. This is the total number of people who could buy from your business. For example, if your concept is a local flower shop, your potential market might be anyone within an eight-mile radius. If you’re also selling over the Internet and offering delivery, your potential market might expand to people who have credit cards and a reason to have flowers delivered in your geographic area.

Once your potential market is defined, it’s time to start narrowing down. Now you must figure out how much of your potential market is also within your addressable market. You must ask yourself who within your potential market is likely to have an interest in your product. Going back to the local florist example, perhaps you include individuals of a certain age who have special occasions coming up. Perhaps you also include organizations such as churches and businesses that might have a regular need for flower delivery.

Finally, you etch out your target market from the addressable market. Identify who within your addressable market is likely to buy from you based on demographics, geographical limitations, personality traits and attitudes and consumer habits.

A Final Word

Though the competitive analysis section of a business plan typically follows the market analysis, it is a good idea to perform your competitive analysis before setting your target market in stone. This can help you define a target market that is actually attainable.

Studying for Web Design Explained

If you’d like to become a web designer qualified appropriately for the job market today, you’ll need to study Adobe Dreamweaver.

To facilitate Dreamweaver professionally as a web designer, an in-depth and thorough understanding of the whole Adobe Web Creative Suite (including Flash and Action Script) is without doubt a bonus. With these skills, you could subsequently become an Adobe Certified Professional (ACP) or an Adobe Certified Expert (ACE).

In order to become a web designer of professional repute however, there is much more to consider. You’ll need to study various programming essentials like HTML, PHP and database engines like MySQL. A good understanding of E-Commerce and SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) will also improve your CV and employability.

The market provides a plethora of job availability in the IT industry. Picking the right one for you is a mammoth decision.

Since without any previous experience in computing, how should we possibly be expected to understand what anyone doing a particular job actually does?

To get through to the essence of this, there should be a discussion of several different aspects:

* Personalities play a starring part – what things get your juices flowing, and what are the areas that really turn you off.

* Is it your desire to pull off an important aspiration – like working from home as quickly as possible?

* The income requirements that are important to you?

* With everything that computing encompasses, it’s important to be able to understand the differences.

* You’ll also need to think hard about any sacrifices you’ll need to make, as well as what commitment and time you’ll put into gaining your certifications.

To cut through the confusing industry jargon, and find the best path to success, have an informal meeting with an industry expert and advisor; an individual who understands the commercial reality whilst covering the certifications.

A fatal Faux-Pas that many potential students make is to concentrate on the course itself, and not focus on the end result they want to achieve. Colleges are full of direction-less students who took a course because it seemed fun – instead of what would yield the job they want.

You could be training for only a year and end up doing the job for 20 years. Don’t make the mistake of choosing what sounds like a very ‘interesting’ program only to spend 20 years doing a job you hate!

Stay tuned-in to where you want to go, and build your study action-plan from that – don’t do it back-to-front. Keep your eyes on your goals and begin studying for an end-result that will keep you happy for many years.

The best advice for students is to chat with an industry professional before following a particular learning program. This gives some measure of assurance that it features what is required for that career path.

One area often overlooked by trainees considering a training program is the concept of ‘training segmentation’. Basically, this means how the program is broken down into parts for drop-shipping to you, which vastly changes what you end up with.

Normally, you’ll join a programme that takes between and 1 and 3 years and receive one element at a time until graduation. While this may sound logical on one level, consider this:

Many students find that their training company’s usual training route isn’t the easiest way for them. They might find a slightly different order suits them better. And what happens if they don’t finish at the pace they expect?

In an ideal situation, you’d ask for every single material to be delivered immediately – giving you them all to come back to at any time in the future – at any time you choose. You can also vary the order in which you complete each objective if you find another route more intuitive.

You have to make sure that all your certifications are current and also valid commercially – forget studies which end up with a useless in-house certificate or plaque.

From an employer’s perspective, only top businesses like Microsoft, CompTIA, Adobe or Cisco (as an example) really carry any commercial clout. Anything less just won’t hit the right spot.

The Ideal Projector for Creating Your Own Home Theatre

In recent years, more people have been taking advantage of innovative technological developments that allows them to create a spectacular home theater system. When creating your own home theater, you have a variety of features to choose from such as the video projector. If you are designing and building a home theater, you have to consider what type of projector you should acquire.

There are three types of main home theater projectors that include LCD, DLP or LCoS. LCD projectors consist of two types: models that utilize a single LCD to produce the picture, and models that use a blend of three LCDs. The difference between the two is that the projectors that utilize three LCDs normally create higher contrast pictures and higher quality color distribution.

The benefit of using DLP projectors is that they create richer colors and higher contrast ratios. Quality DLP projectors use three DLP chips to create the picture which allows the projectors to determine greater degrees of color and shade. DLP projectors normally cost more than LCD models

LCoS utilize liquid crystals to produce the picture. LCoS projectors are well known for creating the best quality images. LCoS models are more expensive than DLP and LCD models.

If you are mainly using HDTV programming, most experts will advise that you use a 16:9 projector on a 16:9 screen. This combination will give the best picture viewing. Most people will select a 16:9 screen as it fits with many different movie formats. Many DVD movies are wider than 16:9. When you play these movies on a 16:9 screen, there will be black bars on the top and bottom of the screen. In this instance, you may want to use a 4:3 format screen.

The best benefit of having a 4:3 screen is that it will usually permit you to display the largest picture. The 4:3 screen format provides one with more square footage of the total screen area for any particular screen width. This is useful when watching older films in a large format. If you are going to create a home theater for large scale 4:3 display, experts recommend, “that you use either a 4:3 projector or a 16:9 projector with a powered zoom lens of at least 1.3x zoom range.”

Before you select a video projector, you should mark on your wall where the screen will be located. You can then position your seat to determine what size screen will be suitable. You can take such considerations as the distance you will be sitting away from the screen and the best spot where you won’t be straining your eyes or working them to view the picture. The size of the image on the screen will be chosen on the basis of how comfortable you are with viewing the picture. You do not want to have to be moving your eyes back and forth and up and down to watch a movie.

Everyone has their own preferences on viewing screens. The greatest benefit of creating your own home theater system own home theater is that you can customize the projector and screen to meet your own personal needs. It is important to consult with a salesperson and read reviews about projectors for help with choosing the most ideal projector for your home theater system.

Studying for Web Design – Thoughts

For almost all web designers, Adobe Dreamweaver is the starting point of study. It is thought to be the most utilised web-development platform globally.

For commercial applications you will require an in-depth and thorough understanding of the entire Adobe Web Creative Suite. This includes (though it’s not limited to) Action Script and Flash. If you wish to become an Adobe Certified Professional or an Adobe Certified Expert these skills will be absolutely essential.

In order to develop into a professional web-designer however, there are other things to consider. You’ll need to study various programming essentials like PHP, HTML, and MySQL. A good understanding of E-Commerce and SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) will also give you a distinct advantage in the marketplace.

Massive developments are flooding technology over the next generation – and the industry becomes more ground-breaking every year.

Technological changes and interaction via the web will radically alter the direction of our lives in the near future; incredibly so.

Wages in the IT sector aren’t to be ignored either – the usual income in the United Kingdom for an average IT worker is much better than in other market sectors. Chances are you’ll bring in a whole lot more than you would in most other jobs.

The need for professionally qualified and skilled IT workers is certain for a good while yet, because of the constant expansion in this sector and the vast deficiency that we still have.

Can job security honestly exist anywhere now? In a marketplace like the UK, where industry can change its mind whenever it suits, it seems increasingly unlikely.

It’s possible though to hit upon market-level security, by digging for areas in high demand, mixed with a shortage of skilled staff.

Offering the IT market for example, the most recent e-Skills investigation brought to light a national skills shortage across Great Britain in excess of 26 percent. To explain it in a different way, this clearly demonstrates that the country can only locate 3 certified professionals for every four jobs available now.

This one notion alone reveals why Great Britain urgently requires a lot more people to become part of the Information Technology market.

While the market is growing at such a rate, is there any other area of industry worth investigating for retraining.

Beware of putting too much emphasis, like so many people do, on the certification itself. You’re not training for the sake of training; you should be geared towards the actual job at the end of it. Begin and continue with the end in mind.

Don’t be part of that group that choose a course that seems ‘fun’ or ‘interesting’ – and end up with a plaque on the wall for something they’ll never enjoy.

Be honest with yourself about what you want to earn and what level of ambition fits you. Usually, this will point the way to what precise certifications will be required and what you can expect to give industry in return.

Talk to a professional advisor who knows about the sector you’re looking at, and could provide a detailed description of what you’re going to be doing in that job. Researching these areas before starting out on a retraining programme has obvious benefits.

Typically, a new trainee will not know to ask about a painfully important area – how their company actually breaks down and delivers the physical training materials, and into what particular chunks.

Training companies will normally offer some sort of program spread over 1-3 years, and send out each piece as you complete each section or exam. On the surface this seems reasonable – until you consider the following:

How would they react if you didn’t complete each and every module within the time limits imposed? Often the prescribed exam order doesn’t come as naturally as an alternative path could be.

For future safety and flexibility, it’s normal for most trainees to make sure that every element of their training is posted to them in one go, with nothing held back. You can then decide in what order and how fast or slow you want to finish things.
